Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the features of the evolution of surnames with the suffix -ик (pl. -ik) < *-ikъ in locally close Ukrainian-Polish territories. The genesis, functions, word-forming features and prevalence of the anthroponymic formant -ик (-ik) < *-ikъ are specified, the indicated is projected on the evolution of the development of surnames of the historical Rivne region, Kholm region and modern Lublin Voivodeship. It is noted that the Ukrainian anthroponymic formant -ик has an ancient origin and a morphological counterpart -ik in Polish and other Slavic languages. Its genesis develops from -ик < *-ikъ < *-ikо < *-kо. In the Proto-Slavic period, the affix was actively used in the creation of diminutive and hypocoristic designations and substantivized adjectives, in historical times - for the creation of derived common names of persons, the derivation and distribution of primary non-derivative bases, diminutive-patronizing forms of names, individual nicknames and surnames. In anthroponyms, the simple affix and its complicated variants act as polyfunctional morphemes, implementing diminutive and patronymic functions. In the evolutionary development of surname systems of the historical Rivne region and the eastern border territories of the Republic of Poland, the suffixes -uк and, accordingly, -ik demonstrate a sufficiently high productivity and multi-faceted linguistic similarity and synchronicity. The formative bases of surnames are personal names and individual nicknames, common nouns with the meaning "person - bearer of an objective feature", adjectives to denote "person - bearer of a certain attributive feature", agentive names on the basis of "person - performer of a certain action or function". The study has shown the thematic orientation of the creative efforts of Ukrainian and Polish onomastic scientists, the synchronization of theoretical and applied anthroponymic material of locally close territories of Ukraine and Poland, which in the future can serve to build a holistic Slavic system of anthroponymic knowledge.
