Abstract

The creativity of Kasiian (Kallist) Sakovych is the precious treasure in the national Renaissance and classical literature, philosophy, polemical journalism, fraternal and educational movement of the first half of the 17th century. He strived to be as useful as possible for his nation in the European progress, he worked not only on the current topics of the heroic struggle against enemies (poem-panegyric about Petro Sahaidachnyi), scientific latest philosophical interpretations of the doctrine of the soul, Aristotle’s legacy, connections of philosophy and religion. He insistently offered the ways to overcome scholasticism in the Orthodox Christianity, the low level of the reforms in the Greek Catholic Church, his vision of the need for a scientific approach to doctrinal issues, which caused considerable resistance and  led Sakovych to transition from Orthodoxy to the union, and then to Roman Catholic Church.
The colourful and deeply erudite figure of Kasiian Sakovych, the stage level of his scientific and literary work attracted attention of the medievalist scholars such as M. Maksymovych, M. Hrushevskyi, B. Krysa, P. Kraliuk, Ada and Bohdan Bychky, Valerii Shevchuk. The need of further studies of his legacy is growing, so this article is a small contribution to its understanding.
